4 speed shifter question!
Guess I just have the handle. The PO put it in, and all I know is it says hurst on the handle. Interesting on moving first gear. I may give that a try. All the factory orginal handles have reverse next to 2nd, but all the hurst stuff has it next to first. Always wondered why.
Easy way to tell if you have a Hurst shifter or not: does it have slop?
The factory shifters, even when rebuilt, are still extremely sloppy. Hurst shifters have a much more positive engagement and don't flop around as much.

The Hurst shifter I got for the Toploader was one of their higher dollar ones, built like a tank with positive stops, and it has no slop whatsoever. VERY positive engagement, but it required me to cut the trans tunnel to get it to fit because of how it sits on the tailshaft.
Starfury, the easiest way to tell if it is a Hurst is to, hmmm, let me see, look and see if it says freaking HURST on it!
67mustang302 how much did you have to cut? They cost enough I would have thought it was a bolt on.

Yeah, you could prolly put a Hurst lever on the factory shifter, but the real work is done in the shifter mechanism. And I had to cut quite a bit, to geat clearance for the shifter and a bit for the linkage.
