IMO either is fine as long as its working correctly!!Mech is a little better but if its working why mess with it!

Cable is a better setup actually for several reason. First it has less moving parts, so there's less to wear out and break. And secondly, most cable setups have a vastly better adjustment arangement that mechanical does. Some of the Ford adjusters simply have you put your foot under the pedal and pull it up, and a ratchet mechanism automatically adjusts it. All the manufacturers have either gone to cable or hydraulic. And a cable can clear different types of headers much more easily. Just keep in mind that when you go to get a clutch, you'll most likely need a late model clutch setup for hydraulic/cable linkage, since the pressure plate throw is a different distance. So when you eventually have to replace the clutch, check the p/n on it and cross reference to make sure you get the right one.

It should have something in/around the firewall. either an adjuster under the dash, or inside the engine compartment on the firewall. It could be a ratcheting quadrant or it could be a nut type adjuster. You'll have to check it out and see.

Go to this website and verify if your setup looks like this:

http://www.mustangsteve.com/cable.html

Whether or not you have an adjustable firewall bracket, you can crawl under the car and adjust the clutch by loosening or tightening the nut on the end of the cable. The cable should be adjusted about one turn in after the throwout bearing contacts the pressure plate. Make sure that the equalizer spring which connects between the top of the clutch pedal and the pedal support has been removed as itis not used with your setup.

Good luck!
Jeff
