Default Guidance Please

Ok a freind of mine has a 1965-66 Mustang and has a set of Dynomax Mufflers. They are 2.5" inlet & outlet. He saying he can't use them because they are too big and will hang down too much? The other issue is I think he wants to keep the stock exhaust manifolds on the car, don't know why? IMO I think he needs to get the car to breath. I mean it's an original 6 cyl car,so not like it is going to be original when he puts the 289 in it.
Can he adapt those mufflers to work on his car under these circumstances. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

I don't see why he could not use them!If it were me I would use them and 2.5" is a Great size. The more the engine Breathes the better!!As you say its originally a six banger so its not going to be stock anyways so use what you have available.I would put a nice set of Headers on it and run dual exhaust but hey thats just my opinion!Talk him into it!!

+1.........

The mufflers should fit no problem and in the long run your friend might find it just as cheap to go with some shorty headers and aftermarket exhaust. The manifolds that I assume he is getting with his donor engine may or may not fit the Mustang. If he is going out and buying manifolds, IMO headers will be cheaper.

But,,, the other side of the coin is that manifolds are maintenance free, no tightening bolts, changing gaskets.....etc.

This past weekend, I swapped out my new Magnaflow 2.5's for the Dynomax Super Turbo 2.5's. Other than having to use an expander on one end, it was a direct swap. The Dynomax is about 1/2" taller and wider than the Magnaflow, but that is about it. They are pretty nice mufflers IMO.

Matt,
good points but remember, if you go too big with the exhaust, it will hurt performnce. 2.25 to 2.5 pipes and mufflers are about as big as you want to go on most SB engines.

so lemme get this straight

its a 6 now, but hes swapping out for a 289.

that means he has to completely replace the exhaust system anyway, so he could use those mufflers.

When he says "too big" does he mean the physical size of the mufflers or the 2.5"???
