i am aware that i will need a different cross member and a cableclutch set up. where should i buythese?

do i need to change the harmonic balancer on my stock 289. i currently have a 3 speed.

will i need to get a new drive shaft or can i use a stock one. i have both.

Check the tag and see which T5 you bought and compare to this table. Factory 86 T-5s were not quite as strong as the later model units, so if you're planning on running 300+ hp you may want to consider beefing it up first.

Your stock 289 is internally balanced to 28oz. You will need to take your new flywheel you purchased (which is 50oz) and have it 'cut down' to a 28oz equivelant imbalance weight. Here's a related photo.

Check out MustangSteve.com for cable clutch setup.

and you will have to use your old driveshaft and have the length adjusted.

You could, but it's not drilled for a late model diaphram clutch. you'd have to use an original 3 finger style.

Seems like it cost me about 75 bucks to have my flywheel rebalanced. At that point, I used 100% late model T5 parts from the crankshaft all the way back to the yoke. No mixing/matching
