+1 for us less engine-savvy people.
from what it looks like to me... some one left a rag in there?

what happened?

i couldnt tell what happened to the intake, but the head bolt holes(im sure thats not the right terminology lol) look stripped and the flywheel teeth were chipped.
i still cant beleive nothing happened to the starter

did he just leave a rag in the engine!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? not only that, it looks like there are scratches and stuff all around the exhaust openings. man, if I were you I would sue that guy for every last penny he has so he cant get his business going.

im not a "less-engine savvy" guy. i work with engines all day.it just looks to me like someone tapped new holes in the head for a different set of headers....?

ok
the starter issuewith the missing spacer did some damage but that turned out to only be part of the story.
the moron (formerly known as friend) stripped out the bolt holes fitting the extractors, missed the spacer in refitting the starter AND didnt finish off the flanging on the rhs extractor pipes. He also left the collectors too short to marry up to the exhaust correctly. he should die for incompetence and lack of care. Twice over for doing it to a friend who was trying to help him out.
A big @ss piecerag (half a pillowcase) was left in the inlet manifold to keep dust and dirt out. Somewhere in the process of dummy fitting carb/spacer/shaker/linkages it got forgotten. An honest mistake with tragic consequences.
When the engine fired it sucked rag under inlet and exhaust valves on 2 cylinders. That's what jammed the engine, not the starter as originally thought. You can see part of the rag under the exhaust valve in that first photo.
to the less engine-savvy (of which I am most certainly one) - having something stuck between the valve and its seat (inlet or exhaust) means the valve doesnt close properly. Depending on the clearances of the specific engine, the piston travelling up the bore will hit the valve if it is protruding from its seat. Thats what has happened here.
We wont know how bad until it is fully torn down.
Best case maybe a bent valve or 2. Worst case, it could have bent valves, rods and even broken pistons. Theres a truckload of force going on in there and unfortunately, cloth doesnt compress too well.
bottom line - i now have 2 different guys (who both should have known better) who have royally screwed up.
