Default Clutch studder

We replacd the rear gears in our '65 coupe about 2 months ago (went from 411's to 300's) and seem to have developed a clutch studder at low rpm in 1st gear when starting off from a full stop. It almost feels like the wheel hop we had back before we changed the gears, only not as bad. Are the clutch plate and pressure plate in need of replacing? Could the clutch plate be burned or glazed? This is in a '65 coupe with 302 and a T10 transmission.

Higher gears = more clutch slippage when leaving from a stop. The clutch might be contaminated with oil, worn, flywheel might be warped or glazed. It could just be the clutch you're using too.

The pilot bushing could be worn, or the input shaft could be short. I'd say it's time to come apart if the chatter is that pronounced.

If it suddenly started after doing nothing more than going to a taller gear, my bet is the clutch just doesn't like the extra slipping, for whatever reason. Did it do it the first time you drove it after changing gears? Or did it start after a while?

It started up the first time we drove the new gears. I know that with the taller gears we need more rpm to start off from a full stop, but this is almost as bad as wheel hop. You can feel it through the shifter. I am looking at some track bars, they might helpa bit, but I rreally think we'er gonna be pullin the tranny soon and lookin at that clutch.

Sounds like a bunch of clutch chatter from the extra load on the clutch. What clutch are you running?

Is the engine stock? Anyway, it sounds like it's clutch chatter, and if it's time for a new clutch anyway, might as well go with a newer more modern clutch. I had chatter problems with a mostly stock 302 and a factory clutch, went away with a Centerforce Dual Friction.
