what distributor are you using the classic or the late model?? if you using the classin 1st thing we need to do is makes sure you used the gear off the late model dist other wise the gear will get eaten up. are you getting power to the coil?? i believe the wires pink(have to check the wiring digram for your year)

if your running the late model distributor what are you doing for a brain box??

and also is this tdc on the compression or the exhaust stroke??

Default RE: distributor help.....

as you have a separate coil, try first:
connect a plug lead to the coil (the port the usually goes to the distributor).
attach a spark plug to the end of it and hold the thread of the spark plug to a place on the engine where you have ground.(use electrical isolated pliers for that)
have someone start the engine. Check if you get to see a spark jumping
If you can't then:
a) either the coil is dead
b) the coil is not getting power
c) the distributor doesn't switch (for the coild to charge/discharge)

for b) Easiest to check next is if you get full power at the coil:
either with a testlight or with a multimeter (voltage tester) check if you are getting 12V on the + side of coil when key is in ignition position.

for c) if you have a multimeter that tests dwell, hook it up while starting the engine. do you get a reading ?
