Default Where in the World is the Date Code on the Engine Block?

I thought I read that the a date code was suppose to be on the engine block and transmission. But I cannot find it. Can anyone tell me where it is?

Thanks. I looked all around the starter and didn't see anything. Is that for a 200 cid? What do you mean by the hallow spot where your starter lives? Does that mean we need to remove the starter to find the code?

I know that is where it is on a V8 and I am fairly sure it is there on a 6 cyl. You will probably need to pull the starter to see it.
