Default Sheet metal - Cowl

I was setting out on my cowl repair project, when I noticed in the catalog that you can buy a replacement upper and lower cowl already put together, etc. I was originally going to go through the normal cowl fix of drilling the spot welds, removing the top, repairing the hats and reinstalling the top. Now, I was thinking about just replacing the top and bottom as a unit. Has anyone done this? I can't see how you would remove the bottom (of course I don't have the top off yet and it may become obvious then). Is it worth buying the complete unit and doing everythng at once?

Thanks,
jeff

I just bought the complete unit for my 69 and it wasn't as easy as I thought. It was difficult to strip all of the EDP coatingfrom between the upper and lower piecesso I could lay down primer. They sell the upper and lower as separate pieces and that is the way Iwould go if I had to do it over again. More welding, but I think you would have a better product in the end.

Mustangs Unlimited sells them and CJ Pony parts does as well. I bought mine from MU.

I'm looking at the CJ Pony Parts catalog since they are only 20 mins away from my house (saves shipping cost).

My car is a 68 coupe. I assumed the inside would already be primed and painted black??

What holds the existing lower section in?

Check out this articlefrom Mustang Montly, it ison the 67-68 cars, but the steps are the same for the 64-66 cars as well. Dynacorn makes the 64-66 assembly, but you can also get the 64-66 upper and the 67-68 lower and move the wiper motor mount. This will allow you to paint and apply some rust inhibitor to the inside section of the cowl.

It is a lot of work, but well worth it.

usmc69mustang, why would you remove the EDP coating? You can primer and paint over it and it is a very good rust inhibitor.

I chose to just replace the bottom. I like knowing I could coat the lower cowl pan and the underside of the upper with POR-15 before I reassembled it. The "hats" come installed on the lower pan too. It really wasn't that bad.....
