Default another opinion request

i've noticed there have been a lot of posts requesting opinions on cars recently and wanted to take the time to thank you old (and young) pros for helping out us newbies. so here's the car, its on ebay, i live about 4 hours away and would go check the car out before buying, but the guys minimum is 9k (via email), is it worth it?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...72284&rd=1

the guy seems legit, he swears the floors are brand new although there are no pics of them in the auction. you guys tell me what i'm looking at here. theres a hole in the trunk although the main pan is obviously new. the body has surface rust (at least), and the engine compartment and engine look pretty rusty, but not rusted out. what do you think duders?

It does not look to me like the wear and rust on this car matches 60,000 original miles. It looks a lot more like well over 100,000. Look at the wear on the top of the door from the driver's arm. That is some serious rust in the back. This does not look like suface rust to me. Convertibles do bring higher prices, but I don't think this one is worth it.

Ill start with the mileage. I can almost guarantee that the mileage is actually 160,xxx miles and not 60. Judging by the rust and condition of everything else on the car, it has endured more than 60k miles. On top of that, it is really, really rusty. The trunk is horrible, and the rear quarters are pretty sad too. Pretty much everything looks bad on the car and I think you can prolly get a much better car for 9 thousand bucks.

edit: a couple more things. Other then the new floor, which isnt even for sure, his list of "new parts" is really lame. They are all extremely cheap and easy to replace things or they are just general maintenance items. Plus, it looks like the car lives in the snow, which is never good.

Unless you are good with a welder and possibly oxy, or your brother owns a panel
shop,I would give it a miss. I find it much easier to deal with engine/gearbox/mechanical
issues than body and paint. So I would try to find one with as good a body as possible.
Possibly the best way to look at it is, say the car costs you $5K but required $5K to get
it into reasonable condition. Then really you are looking at a $10K car.

Uh, OK...anybody notice anything strange about the license plates. The seller kindly included shots showing both the front and rear plates. They're different.
