1970 mustang advice
im starting to get into the mustang now. I have had it about 2 months and it has been sitting in my driveway. I paid 6k for it which i am beginning to think i over paid.... Im starting to see some rust issues that the previous owner obviously cleaned up to sell it but did a complete wrong job. The drive side door is rusted pretty bad but painted right over. Im starting to get worried that there could be too much rust and i might be better off selling it on craigslist or something. Should i start replacing parts that i can find online? If so, does anyone know if doors off of a 68/69 would fit my car? I can post pictures if needed by tomorrow. I definately need some advice before i start putting any cash into this. Is it worth it for this project or should i sell and go for another car?
Only you can say whether it's worth it for your project. If that's what you want no price is too much. If you're not either willing or able to put a LOT of work and $$in any old Mustang, you're in the wrong hobby. I paid about the same for my 70, and no matter how well you check you're going to find more problems than you expected. The car's 30+ years old and unless it's been packed away somewhere in AZ, you're going to find rust. Parts are easy to find, all it takes is time and $$.
If you're questioning it before you get started in the project you need to sit back and evaluate what you want out of it and how much you're willing to put into it, not just money but time and effort. Any idiot can pay someone else to do it for them. You'll only get the satisfaction from doing it yourself. It'll take a lot of work but it's a labor of love.
Good Luck and Hang in there, it is worth it

yea i was thinking about going along with it. I do love the car for sure. I was waiting for one of these to come to me since before i got my license. About 4 years i waited and i drove a honda for 2 years... lol .. so you definately know i need some power and style from the mustang. Does anyone know if any other years of mustang doors would fit my car? I found 68/69 doors online for a nice price but i cannot seem to find 1970. If i get an idea of what other years are options for my car then i can find some stuff. Pics will hopefully be up tomorrow of the inside of the door and the car itself. I also know it is a v8 car obviously but cannot figure out what size engine.. maybeyou guys can help me with that
67/68 doors will not work on a 70. 69/70 are very similar body styles so a lot of things are in common, and I believe the doors is one of them. You should be able to use 69 doors on your 70, however the window internals maybe be different because I believe the 1970 windows operate differently. Be sure to look into it, and I'm sure someone knows.
Throw some pics up of your car for us to tell you what we think! Take a pic of the engine and we can tell you what it is. For a 70 it is most likely a 302 or 351cleveland, unless you have a big block in there.

fix it up and dont quit trying. ive got a 70 coupe and ive already upgraded alot on it. the next thing im doing is my rust. i got quoted 600 to replace all the rust on my DOORs and floors and the quarter panals. you just got to find the right guy to do the job for you. I say get those doors fixed because mine are bad and hes going to fix them like they are and make them rust free. dont buy repro crap its never the same. i paid 4600 for mine which was pretty fair so 6000 isnt bad if yours is in pretty good shape. I say just keep the car and fix it up. you wont be sorry once youve finished it! keep me posted!
You dont mention if its a grande or a fastback....these are for the fastback
The 69 doors will work but the front fenders and headlight buckets wont.there is difference in the fenders where the buckets bolt on.As far as the internals for the doors the 69 had glue in windows, they are glued to the track and commonly come unglued, the 70 has bolt in windows,so stick with the 70 windows.I think the trunk lid can also be used from a 69.The hood im not sure ,but I think the difference in the front buckets is just the bolt pattern and the hood will work.(im sure someone here will know)Thats about it as far as the body goes. Also there is a difference in the front suspension the 69 has slightly smaller diameter spindles, drag link and tie rod ends. You can use them but only if you convert the whole system to the smaller diameter. The wiring system cannot be switched as there were some differences in the interiors.the heating/ac units are not the same so the wiring wont be compatable without modification
Thats all I can think of at the moment,I'm sure there is more but its early and I havent had any coffee yet.I will post more on the 69/70 common parts as I remember them

The headlight pockets on a 69 are a different size than the ones on a 70. If you find good 69 fenders you can drill out the pockets and switch them then you will have cut a marker light holes. The grille, valence, and headlight doors are different also the core support in a70 has provisions for twist pins that the 69 did not. Besides the scoops on the 69 the rest of the1/4 is the same shape. And the ever so obvious taillight panel. All other exterior panels should interchange
