I saw an I8 once.. I forget what it was in, either a Studebaker or a Pierce Arrow.. It was a long time ago.. Or.. Maybe it was an old Pontiac Sedan? I can't remember, but I remember being kind of dumbfounded when I saw it.. LOL

Standard rust places are lower edge at the door on front fenders, lower edge of doors (driver doors are hard to find and repops are good/bad gamble) and top edge of quarters. What prior posts say about the cowl & floor pans. Cowls are deal busters for most as they are REAL expensive to fix. If it's a solid car, that is a good price (especially if you can negotiate down).

LOL You'd need a cherry picker or a chainfall just to do a head gasket!

$5800 seems a bit much for a six cylinder. Unless its in perfect condition i would definitely talk him down.

if noone has mentioned it so far. flush water down the cowl and see if it ends up inside the car where you have brake pedals and under the glovebox, so that the carpet gets wet. if it does stay away from the car

I paid 5500 for my I6. People before me bought it for 6500. So it seems about right to me.

Hi,
If the car is structural sound with minor rust then that is not to bad of a deal. Try to talk the owner down slightly. It will not be to bad to convert to a v-8 if that is what you are thinking of doing??? It depends on your goals for that specific car.

just so you know converting from an i6 to v8 is a lot more than just an engine swap. to do it right you need to convert to 5-lug suspension which will require a new rearend and some front suspension work. you might even have to do some transmission work to handle the extra power but im not sure.
