Rebuilding a 66 convertiable
Hi,
I have just brought a 66 convertible in Australia to rebuild.
I have found that the colour, & trim don't match the codes on the tag plate.
This does not matter as i am going to rebuild it from the ground up.
The question is how important is it that i build it back to the no. on the plate?
or can i change it to what i like as i don't like the colour and i want pony interior.
Will i lose re sale cost if it is a different from the no. on the car.
thanks guys
as i need help unsure of what to do.
starting in the morning and i will give updates over the next few months.

I've always believed that a fella oughta' be able to do whatever he wants to his Mustang. Hell, it's your car, do whatever you wish. Since it's not going to be concours anyhow, I'd paint it whatever color you desire. I wouldn't worry about resale value unless you plan to sell it as soon as you get through restoriong it.
Unless you're going to restore it to EXACT factory specs, It's your car, paint it whatever color(s) it is you like. The resale depends on a few factors:
The buyer and what he/she wants
The market trends at the time of resale
Wether or not you plan to advertise it as a "numbers matching" or "all original" car
And how bad the buyer wants the car

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. Unless you are buying it ONLY for resale/historical value, go with what you want. That is why Mustangs come in so many variations, trims and colors. The Mustang is supposed to let the owner embibe in the spirit of individuality. The car is so easily customizable with aftermarket parts.
