Default FLOORPAN REPLACEMENT ADVISE

Well the car is in the shop now and i need yalls advise about fixing up the floor pans. i have two options. i either go get the factory reproduction floor pans and play it safe by cutting the whole floor out. OR he says for 300 bucks he can knockout all the rust and grind it down but keep the original pans in it but just get them down to the metal and then he will fab in a new sheet of metal to stick in ontop of the old pans and weld them together and coat them in rust preventive (bedliner stuff) or whatever its called. so he promises that the rust will be removed but it just will have the new sheet of metal over it. i figure it would probably be better to get the new factorypans but that will be alot more expensive and i think the fab job he will do will be done nicely. he is going to undercoat my whole car and remove all the rust inside the car including the trunk. Do yall think its ok to just add in the metal? Do i need the factory style pans in there with the drain holes and such?

The PO of my car did the pan over a rusted pan and it was a mess. Water got in there and rusted both floors out. They tried to under coat it too to fill in the old rust holes. Dont do it. If you are going to have it done do it right.

I just had my pans replaced. WhenI was getting quotes, I had all the interior out of it except the drivers seat and found someone to do it for $600 + pans. You'll getter better quotes if you have the car pretty much ready to cut.

you wont know what it looks like under the seat riser until you get into the repair. I thought mine looked good at first until I started cutting into it and it was shot under the riser as well. if you are taking it to a profesional he should know how to replace it. I did a butt weld on mine so that it looked a little more stock. It would probly be cheaper to have a lap weld done. just because he doesn't have to be as precise with his cutting and welding. usually you leave your pan with an inch lap all around and drill holes within that inch to do a fillet weld in all of the holes.

Ok. well im going to go get the pans from johnsmustang tomorrow here in town. Doi need to buy a certain brand floor pan or is johnsmustang sell good ones? he sells pretty good stuff usually.

I would really apreciate it if one of yall that knows the correct way and order to install the pans the right way if you could make me a direction sheet in order on how it should be done so i can show him to make sure its done right. i dont want to have to go thru this process again in another 10 years because the floors are rusty again.

edit: hes also doing the trunk area so should i have the gas tank removed? kabooom?
