oh and I am also curious to know...since the paint is only faiding in certain places should I have the whole thing repainted? or just those areas? Idk I would like to get it all painted, but it is just alot of money...and I am just a poor college student....Just let me know what you guys think
Don't bother paint patching as it'll look really bad! Bite the bullet and get the entire car painted or keep driving it until you can afford it. As for pricing.. I'd say at the very least 2000.00 and well.. the sky is the limit and these days 20k can be a drop in the bucket for a paint job. Sad but true. For a complete paint job your looking at 2k to 4k for a general everyday driver. A bit cheaper if you just want the outside painted.. Remove the chrome, trim, bumpers, and mask off all the windows, wheels/tires, door handles, etc yourself.
Might want to see if your college has an auto-body or paint shop as you could save that way.. though remember.. students will be doing it. Check out other local trade and community schools as well. Call a few of the local Mustang and Classic car clubs and see if they have any suggestions.. Could be a club member who only charges for material costs to club members or a small fee.
Paint shops charge a fortune because the operating and environmental costs are so high. I even called our local Maaco shop for a 2-stage Base coat / Clear coat Urethane paint job and I was quoted 2,500.00.
Good luck! Everyone sheds tears when the time comes for paint these days.

As good as that car looks, wait until you graduate and start your career to paint it. Although, Adrenolin has a good suggestion about the auto-body shop at your school (if they have one). I wouldn't be concerned about students doing it though, as they will be supervised by a pro and they are wanting to impress him/her, so you may get better than from a shop.
You want the whole car done at once, otherwise it will be difficult to match after so many years. Also even if the paint looks good in places it probably has become thin.
I am preparing my 65 for paint now. It will cost me $1000 plus materials for single stage paint. The car is going to them completely prepared. They will spray, color sand and buff. Not everyone will allow you to do prep. I know this shop and I prepped cars for a living 35 years ago (which has not changed) so they are letting me do it. Their prep with no body work would have added $1,500 to $2,000.
If you are dealing with original paint you can just sand for prep. If the car has been painted before youshould take it down to at least the original paint or primer, and that's hard to do.
If you are going original, don't forget this car only had single stage paint on it - no clear coat. Two stage adds cost.

I really don't want to paint it. but there are a couple rust spots, and I want to get that taken car of ASAP so it does not get anyworse. If it wasn't for that rust I would just wait until I got some more money before painting. I will have to figure something out.
Since a full paint job is out of your price range right now, sand out the rust spots, treat the metal to ensure you've gotten it all, and use touch-up paint to cover until you can do the whole car right.
