My wife noticedsomething in your photo. Are there actually two Mustangs there? That thing on the left sure looks like a horse. Love that redneck gas tank.

HAHAHA! Yes it is! I didn't even notice that!

My uncle gave that to my dad as a gag-Christmas present one year - it is a horse that goes on an older swing-set.

He painted it to match the "Mustang" Emblem and had a laminated sign on it saying something about my dad's garage and the many Mustangs we actually do have in the yard haha

Just an update - I am currently looking to purchase another 65' in order to make both cars into one to make it a little easier on me. And I could potentially have 2 cars out of the deal - depending on my finances and ambition :-P

Just curious, do you want to do a full scale resto, or what? That car looks pretty rough, not to say it cant be restored, but it will be expensive.

I like the gas tank!

The goal is to go as full scale as I can. I want it to be as "original" as I can get it.
The car is very rough - and where it stands it is going to take time, patience and A LOT of $ to get to where I want it to be.

Right now I am in the process of looking for a 65 or 66 in order to combine the two and come out with one great car. I have most of the original parts - I just need a solid body to put them in haha.

The gas tank is the best part haha

well it looks bad but its not hopless... sadly my 72 coupe was just as bad about a year ago and its really not super costly.. that is if your not afraid to work with fiberglass and body filler... i know alot of people are against it but hey im 19, in college and i dont plan on selling it... i love the old girl and i replace what needs to be replaced but things can be saved if you try... learn to love rust remover and dont be afraid to ask for help.... i started on the cowl repair last week and its almost done... cost me 20 bucks in fiberglass but heck it works and it looks fine... thats to say its not easy but i made a long tool with a claw on the to manipulate the cloth and used a shop rag, toothbrush, and paintbruch to coat everything so it stops the rust... its hard but if you put your mind to it it can be done for alot less then you think... i guess it all depends on your situation, my car was better off inside than i thought at first... good luck and dont give up =-)

It may not be where you decide to go with this car but Tang 72 makes some really good points. There is a lot of pressure to do everything exactly by the book, the RIGHT way... And that is valid. But sometimes you gotta work with your budget and be creative about how you are going to keep your car looking good & out on the road... and still preserve what you've got til that time comes when you can take it apart again and spend the $ to do it "right".

Either way, you are a braver man than me. I am sure you can bring that car back to life but in my current situation, there is simply no way I could do it. Time, work space, budget and my patience would all run dry way too soon. Good luck with this and please do keep us posted on here with pics of the progress. I have REALLY enjoyed the success stories on here about people bringing these old ponies back to life.

If you havent seen it already, there is someone on here, I think it is ThanksDad, who brought a rusty old fastback to life for his son. Now that kid is cruising in a white GT350 withblue racing stripes, looking like a million bucks. Check his car out for some inspiration.
