Default Speedometer Cable Frustrations (can't find the right one!)

My '69 coupe was missing the speedometer cable to begin with, and now am attempting to install an Autometer speedometer.

I purchased the car with a non-stock motor (351c), so I am unsure if I have a "standard" transmission or not. It is a 4-speed and also has a Hurst shifter.

So far I have tried a "NOS 69-72 Mustang/Cougar Speedometer Cable" off eBay (didn't work), and a "69-70 Speedometer Cable 4 speed (except drag pack)" from a local parts store (gave crazy readings).

I took the last one back and the owner said I need a "gear" that was dependant on "your rear end gear ratio" (and I have no idea what mine is).

So, this simple project has become a HUGE headache.

Any advice from the group that has saved my a$$ a million times?
