gunk removal

Default gunk removal

so i was wondering, what is the best way to get the gunk that has hardened on my rear diff. i want to clean it up and repaint it.

Depends on how hard it is. Take a trip to the cleaning aisle at the grocery store and pick up a spray bottle of Fantastik and a stiff brush. Unless it's rock hard that might do it. Fantastik is great at softening up and disolving all kinds of crap (I think that's a line from one of their commercials).

Is it out of the car right now? I assume you'll remove it to prep-n-paint?

Heres what you do. Load it up in a truck at 3am and take it to your nearest do-it-yourself car wash. High pressure guns are awesome..

And maybe soak it in "engine degreaser" before you go..

3" wire wheel on a drill motor. Scrape every inch of the outside.

I turned the pressure down on our steam cleaner so it got really hot and blasted my 66 rear with that and it all came off.. I was wet as a sailor when done though!!
