Default Cool project for Spring Break....

So I got bored last night and decided to work on my quarter windows that have refused to work properly since I bought the car. I cleaned the tracks, then got on DallasMustangs to order some replacement rollers for the destroyed old ones.
Anyways, then I got to lookin' at my rear seat that needs to be recovered, and that never gets used. The idea to build something to put back there in place of it has been in my head for a long time, and I finally decided to do somethin with it. I started building a frame to fiberglass over to mount my two Audiobahn 12's and two 6x9's.
Has anyone ever done anything like this before to a classic???
And please, if you're a purist, I'm not drilling any holes and I'm keeping all my parts, and my 67 C code Mustang is far from rare or numbers matching, so only CONSTRUCTIVE critizism.

Hey David,
IMHO these cars just don look right without the back seat. Unless its the fold down fastbacks.
I was kicking around the idea of losing mine in favor of a alu. bead rolled panel.
The rollbar makes the seat unusable but the car just doesnt look right with out it.

Im sure you could do a nice fit fiberglass structure but they are heavy.
I think trunk mount the subs and keep the back seat.
There were some picts some guys did theirs on here in the trunk looked great.

Do a tacked up old sheet or any fabric and see how you like the way it flows and get an idea of the shape of things.
Ive done a few fiberglass things like that and I always kind of do a mock up without the hardener to see if I like it.
Even a fold down back from a 5.0 would be a better option IMHO. Ive seen a few of those that look nice, fold it down to cruise and see the subs bumping.
Best of both when you need it.

Consider this too...

The safest rollcages make the rear seats unusable (or at least uncomforable). If you're going to make the seats obsolete, you should also put in a full rollcage and then build the box around that. Granted, it would take away from some of the audio's performance, but a good tradeoff imo. This is all assuming you don't already have a cage.

p.s. I've sent you a PM or two, care to check 'em out?

I want to do a roll cage this summer, cuz I don't think spring break is going to be enough time with how much I have to work. But yeah its definitely on the list. Hey resend those PM's, or email me. Mustangduckk@gmail.com

Just my two cents here:

I think a classic mustang would look pretty bad with fiberglass setup in the back. As said before, they look best with a seat back there or with a rollbar (if your car justifies having one). It just seems like the only cars with the fiberglass setups are riced hondas and stuff. Dont get me wrong, some fiberglass setups look amazing, but I personally wouldnt like the look of one in a classic.

That said, if you are gonna do it, think about what else you could put there in addition to or instead of the 6x9s cuz the backseat area is fairly large and it would look funky with only a couple of speakers.

The 12's are going in it too and the amp. Its pretty much filled up, and I have no idea if its going to look good or not for two reasons. First, it just may not fit the look of the classic, in which case I'll just take it out and put everything back. Second, I've never built anything like this before, and I'm kinda winging it, but I'll post pics when I'm done.

I would put the 12's box in the trunk, personally. Consider that they will also be invisible there.

I was given an amp from chip foose personally and after that i just had to do something with it, so i built this totally removeable box, 4 screws and about 6 of the old style cabinet snaps and its out. The amp will be place where the seat back was and two 12's will be placed where your butt used to go...

If you cover the plug your making in leather or even vynil would look nice and match painted screams ricer to me.Plywood will work thicken depends on what you want to put in it.Once you get everything laid out you can fiberglass over the plywood or cover it to match your interior.

I think if this conversion was done, it is only a matter of time before you taking it out. Doesn't sound like a long term item to me. my .02
