I learned a good lesson today...

Those automated self diagnostics can be a real bear to find!!!
The plug on my sender unit had some rust in it and would work from time to time as well. I finally tracked it down but sure was fun figuring how much was left in the tank! Before I found the problem, I re-set the trip meter every fill-up and filled it again at around 125 miles.

Or in my case, much worse running.[:@]
I have ran out of gas way too much to remember in my stang. Once was right across the street from not one but two gas stations. Quite embarassing when you have a carfull and on one of the busiest streets in town! At least it has never happened to me on the highway. I need to fix my sending unit soon. I did the test to see if it was the sending unit or the wiring three years ago and never got around to changing it. Pretty sad if you think about it *lol*.
I just had a fuel sending unit go out on me... the float developed a leak... Always on E. I used an old electric fuel pump to drain the tank into fuel cans (no drain plug on the car fuel tank) I completely filled my wife's Stratus + the riding lawnmower and had enough left over to get the car to the gas station when I was done.
One mod I did a long time ago was to replace the standard 16 gallon tank with the 22 gallon 1970 unit. Drops right in, with only a minor loss of trunk space. Pays off on the highway!

its funny this subject comes back up, because I let my truck run out of gas last week. And unlike my Mach, the fuel guage DOES work in my truck. I figured I could make it to the station, and I was wrong [:@]. It died about a mile away, so i walked to the station, and cross a major highway in the process. When i got to the station, the told me they didnt have a gas can. So, I had to call my Mommy and have her bring me a can lol. I was a little embarrased.
Maybe I DIDN'T learn my lesson last time
