Just between you and me - what's not to like about that color?
(This is the husband now)
But I DON'T want to 'declare' this is an HCS, until I talk to Bob ***** at the HCS registry (found at californiaspecial.com, thanks).
But hopefully this is interesting... Here are the clues:
Our Mustang has the special wire wheel covers (pretty weak clue, but it IS a clue)
Original color, as visible inside trunk, appears to be Aspen Gold (another weak clue, but it IS a clue)
Missing Color code (this is known to indicate special paint in early classic 'Stangs)
Decodes as Denver Sales office (the only place HCS were sold)
Decodes as built in San Jose, CA (the only place HCS were built)
Decodes as build date July 15 1966 (this is a CONFIRMED date for HCS builds)
DSO is 510240, decodes as "Denver (Special Order Unit 0240) " at www.mustangdecoder.com... (is this the 240th of 333 built?)
Sorry about the long post. I'll turn it back over to my more sensible wife now.

Thanks for the info Dan66. I've been looking for a local club infact!
We haven't been able to truely CONFIRM the HCS. However, the only thing she is lacking is the badge on the side. Her stamp plate on the door has no color # and a long DSO #. Possibly sequential. We are going to give Ford a call this next week and see what they can tell us.
Personall,y I'm just thrilled to death to see her in MY driveway!
And be able to drive her.

It could also be a "Sprint" with the wire wheels.

(this is the husband again)
We have the 200cc six, so I was trying to find out this was a sprint when I learned about the HCS possibility. then decoding raised the question of the color and the DSO... suggesting this may be an HCS.
I thought the six cyl. engine ensured it was NOT an HCS until I read that in 1966 the HCSs were built in (any?) body, style and engine combinations.
That's why I want to talk to Mr. ***** from the HCS registry.
The "three-finger" trim also had me convinced this was NOT an HCS until I saw photos of HCS with that trim.
This car is either something special in terms of rarity, or not.
Either way it has a home here.

Have you ever looked on the fenders behind the mustang script for the 3 screw holes that may be bondo'ed over? This would Indicate that there may have been an HCS badge at one time.[sm=smiley25.gif]
