Starting Front Disc Conversion tomorrow... Wish me luck!
Tomorrow morning I am going to be diving headfirst into what might be my most ambitious project to date. Not gonna lie... Im a little nervous, apprehensive since I am afraid I might not be driving my car for a few days.
I got the 2008 GT front disc kit: calipers, rotors and Adjustable Proportioning Valve from Mustang Steve and a new disc/drum Master Cylinder.
Tonight I bought two 3/16" brake lines, pipe cutter tool, flare tool, a brake bleeding tool....
I hope I have everything together. I am planning on running my lines through the original distribution block which appears to be about 40 years old. Should I be replacing this part? The wires for the brake light appear to not be anywhere near functional. Is there a way to test to make sure the block will be fine before I hook everything up to it? Does anyone know if the adjustable proportioning valve can just hook straight into the distribution block or does it need to be "spliced" into the rear brake line somehow? Some folks have suggested running it into the car, through the firewall... Is this a good idea or more trouble than its worth??
Thanks guys. There is a good chance you will hear from me on here tomorrow! Cheers!

if the distributor block is fine, then sure you can use it.
just take it apart and clean it out with a q tip or something. or stick a needle through and clean any gunk out. then spray and soak with carb/brake cleaner. air off with compressor and it should be fine.

Right on True66.... I hope I can pull this one off...
Someone here has a quote on their sig from Henry Ford that says something to the effect of "Whether you think you can or can't, you are probably right."
That is what is driving me to go ahead and start doing this project tomorrow. It's like having a baby... If you wait til you are truly "ready", you probably never will be.
I didn't say that.
Okay, enough BS from me for one night.

GT2008 Brakes $469
Disc/Drum master cylinder $ 75
Proportioning valve $ 65
Parts total $ 609
Shipping to CA $67.67 (UPS Ground)
Total $ 676.67
The price has fluctuated a bit on this kit, seen it selling on ebay for a few bucks more and a few bucks less. But I was very happy with the price for what I got.
This being my first front disc swap, I am not in a position to point out many advantages firsthand over other swap packages but I will try..... The calipers are already fully assembled, the price was very reasonable, Mustang Steve has a good reputation and stands by his product... I also found him to be very good with his communications via email.
Unlike some kits, I do not have to take off my spindles or coil springs...
It seems like it will be a fairly straightforward job... of course I am hoping it will be, and I'm certainly not expecting it to be.
I will take pics and update the forum as soon as it all comes together.... if not sooner!
Part of the reason I bought this kit is because I wanted to get this DONE. And I didnt want to spend $2k. I want to spend that on some new heads.

He got them from http://www.mustangsteve.com/cobrabrakes.html they are pbr brakes same thing baer really is.Another site if you don't have 17s http://www.streetortrack.com/Street-...-pr-23510.html they use a smaller rotor.Good luck have a lot of penetrating lube ready and take your time.
I would recommend that you also get a tubing bender as well. You can bend the 3/16 line easy enough by hand, but it will almost certainly look better if you use a bender...
I bought mine at harbor freight for about $12...
I used to bend everything by hand,,,, not anymore!
Also, when making inverted flares, make sure you chamfer the end of the tube as stated in the directions, or the flares will suck and not seal... Chamfer them good...
I don't know aboutyour prop valve, mine was a prop valve and distribution block combo, all four lines hooked to it....

Hey all,
Yeah I do have drums all around... but not for long.
Thanks for the pointers JMD. I got the bending tool, cutter, and double flare tool last night. I am getting underway with the project right now.
Thanks guys! I am taking a bunch of pics of the progress so hopefully I will have them posted on here in a few days.
Cheers.
