Default A few more front disc swap questions...

So today I got my rotors and calipers all set up... no brake lines yet... tomorrow.

On the passenger side,my calipers clear my rims by about 1/8" or less. Its really tight but it clears.

On the drivers side, it is also really close... But the little wires that stick out from the calipers rub as the wheel spins. ( the little wires that appear to be used toadjust or access the pad???)

What should I do about this?

Also, the pads in the calipers are very snug against the rotors, to the point that I am pretty sure they are rubbing. You can spin the wheel manually while its jacked up but it doesnt spin entirely freely. Is that normal? Should I somehow adjust the pads?

I am planning on attempting to swap out the MC tomorrow and hook up the lines and the prop valve. I have been taking pics so far of the progress and will try to post tomorrow night what I have accomplished so far. I would love to wrap this up tomorrow but I am not counting on it. No pity party here, but I am doing this work entirely through my shop manual, you guys on the forum, and a little luck. So far, so good.

BTW, if you saw my post earlier, I was able to take my drum/hub to a local machine shop and they took 5 minutes and did it for me. I was up and running again.

Thanks for any help you can offer!!

The pads should touch the rotor they will wear down as you drive it the wires sticking out of the caliper can you take a picture of them?

I'd just bend the wires out of the way. I'm assuming you're talking about safety wires or cotter pins that hold the pads in place? And on disc brake systems the pads are always in light contact with the rotors. They need heat to operate, my pads for instance don't start really coming on until they're around 200-300 F(and don't start dying off till around 1,000 F). The first stop sign on really cold mornings usually requires a bit of pedal effort, but after that the light contact keeps them warm.

Also consider stainless steel braided teflon lines for the felx lines. They're rediculously strong and will be the last brake lines you buy.

Thanks for the great info... This is exactly what I needed to hear. I had to put a shim in between the bracket and the caliper to raise the caliper to be able to reach... I will try to upload and post some pics of everything soon.
Thanks again...
