Why don't we talk about U-joints when you figure out if you need U-joints. Any good parts store will have them.

Put the rear of the car on jack-stands, put the tranny in neutral, e-brake off, grab the driveshaft, twist it back and forth, look for where there might be play or noise.

If nothing is found here, rotate the driveshaft at least 5 turns in a clockwise manner and then counterclockwise, again looking for looseness or noise....

My gut feeling is thatyou will find both looseness and a rattle, pop, or skipin the rear end...[:@]

Funny though...
U-joint usually don't quit all of asudden.
You'll hear that nasty clunk everytime you put it in gear from park when they start going bad, so it's a warning sign.
But you ignore this and drive the car in a spiritual way, lol, it'll just snap on you[8D].
That is not necessarily true. I have broken three u joints in my day. Two of them never made noise until the drive shaft fell out. Drag racers break u joints all the time on the launch. I doubt they made any noise either.

To answer your question, u joints just go out. They are a wear item that needs to be replaced every so often.

im in wonderlake or wondertucky as they lke to call it,north of batavia in mchenry co.I bought u-joints at napa, they had them in stock.when you take out the driveshaft, mark the shaft and yolk with a piece of chalk so you put it back in the same way it was.the reason for this is that its balanced and best to keep it that way!good luck al
