Default Reverse not working... (69 C4)

Hey guys,

Got another strange thing going on with my car...

First off the original engine/tranny combo was basically destroyed (390/C6) and was replaced with a 302/C4 out of another 69. The car ran with reverse for quite a while and was very careful when reversing unlike my buddies (smokie burnouts xD). Anyway, one day it just went out. I researched on this site and saw information about the external adjustment screws. When I did this to spec, nothing happened (on the low/reverse band). When I decided to go 2 turns instead of 3, reverse worked. I jumped in the car to take it down the street, but then it didn't want to leave first gear. I am totally stumped as to what is going on and I hope that you gurus out there have the answers for me.

Thanks for your time.

are you running a shift cable like for a b&m ratchet shifter?
it might need adjusting.

If your trans has over 119,000 on it probably needs to be rebuilt

I am just running the stock linkage as of now, and the other Mustang that I pulled the 302 out of only had 43,000 miles on it. Wasn't abused either, other than being left outside to rust by the previous owner who thought the engine was bad (just a bad radiator).

Im not sure how to adjust the stock linkage but im thinking that might be part of the issue a trans shop would probabaly be a good next step.
