Some on the site might recall I have made a few posts in relation to overheating problems I have had with my car. At long last I appear to have fixed my over heating problem. It is in a warm 302W, 65 coupe, C4. Engine, gearbox are all restored within 3000 miles ago and a brand new Northern aluminium radiator. The car has AC new mechanicals (compressor/condensor), restored under dash unit. This is long, but it might help others with the same problem.
PROBLEM
In traffic car would overheat (by extra guage climbing over220 degreeswithin 15 minutes. Car had five blade fan and shroud with a 185 degree thermostat. Highway driving was fine. A number of persons on this site suggested air flow problems and in the end it was.
PROCESSES USED.
Flushed the system put in water wetter/demineralised water and coolant. Result - slowed the heating up down by a small amount but still over heated qucikly.
Sealed the shroud to the radiator. Got the fan closer to the radiator (as close as possible). Result- slowed down the over heating a tad more.
Put a deeper shroud on. No result.
Put a cheap e-bay electric fan on blowing 2700CFM, or thats what the seller said it was. Car would idle with the bonnet up and not overheat, with the bonnet down it would soon get very hot. Even faster as expected with the AC on.

Put a high performance Eddlebrock water pump on and installed a new thermostat. Result. Slowed down overheating even more but still continued to heat up over220 degrees after about 25 minutes in traffic.

At no stage did I let it boil over but I think it got close.
Finally got the fan tested and it only blew 1300-1400CFM, way to weak for a V8. Lesson to be learnt - You pay for what you get, don't got cheap on fans.
Bought a SPAL fan that blows 2700CFM and attached (claimed to be 3000CFM but tests showed it blew about 2700CFM) . Put a over flow tank in with a 13 pound radiator cap for a overflow tank. Car now sits at between 185-200 degrees with or without a/c on in traffic. One year of stuffing round and it now is a pleasure to drive in traffic.
What a relief. Trial and error for this problem is now over. I hope this helps others.

Haven't got it yet, had other things to worry about and experiment with. It is in the plans along with winning lotto to support my mustang habit.

Glad to hear you got it fixed and thanks for sharing your successful results. that is most helpful sharing your end result, that worked. When people ask for help with issues and they never share their success, never helps with future issues with the same symptoms. I'm sure this will come into factor when I get to the point of the cooling system for mine. Thanks again!
