Default Alternator wiring harness fire!!!

I have a 67 GT Fastback that had a little problem today. The back of the alternator/harness caught on fire. I got it put out and cleaned up. I bought a new harness that runs from the the alternator then plugs into the harness that runs to the headlights/foglights/voltage regulator etc.

The harness melted together a bit (almost like a "tunnel" from the burned wire going to the alternator, then runs/melts across the both plugs, and burned the same wire on the other harness about 5 inches or so.

A) any suggestions as to how to get the the two harnesses separated?

B) will i need a whole new harness that runs to the lights and regulator or will i be able to salvage it? can i splice that one wire since it was the only one that burned on that end and only about 5 inches down or so?

C) How do i know if the Voltage Regulator is bad now?

D) assuming my alternator is shot (which is a likely possibility), should I have a 1 pulley or 2 pulley alternator? My car has factory air, but is not currently hooked up and the compressor is out of the car. Just trying to see what came on the car ORIGINALLY (only a one pulley on there now) but I am big on trying to keep my car as original as possible.

Thanks guys!

Default RE: Alternator wiring harness fire!!!

I would just solder in new wires.. But after I figure out why it happened in the first place.
