Default Starting Question

Ok, pretty much put everything new on my 68 3spd mustang, and today for the first time in almost 2 years I went to start it. The starter seems to spin when the key is turned but it is not engaging the flywheel at all. I had the starter checked today and it is just fine. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I have put a new starter, new 157T flywheel, new cylinoid, new battery, new cables, etc. It almost seems like the starter shaft is not extending to engage the flywheel. Any help that someone could give me on this would be great. I am kind of at a loss for what it could be.........VERY FRUSTRATING>>>>>>>>

There are different starters for AT and Manual trans cars, do you have the right one? I believe that fact was discussedlast week here on the forum

Yep,, you need to be sure to pick up the correct one.. some times the shaft wont extend far enough..

Thanks. You guys will not believe this one. You have to remember, I ama first time restorer. I decided to check the old flywheel that I pulled from the car. Well when I thought I had a 157T flywheel, (which is pretty common I guess in the 68 302's), I actually have a 164T flywheel. So when I bought the brand new 157T and installed it, this is why the starter is not engaging.... Smaller flywheel just will not work...Have to love this. So I now need to pull everything back apart and get the correct flywheel. Nothing like making a $150 mistake. I am sure it could have been a lot worse, but live and learn.... Anyone interested in a brand new 157T flywheel???????

Make an offer on the flywheel. It will most likely be about 2 weeks before I get a chance to pull it. I can be reached at this email: blue21mstang@yahoo.com. If you are interested, obviously I will contact you as soon as I pull it. I can accept paypal for payment as well. Flywheel was just bolted up and never even started due to my first timer mistake.....
