Default Vent bolt?

Whenever I got my 67, it came with a 9" differential. It leaked everywhere and I eventually found out that that was becuase the vent bolt rusted shut. Since the vent bolt prevents pressure from building up in the differential, and mine rustred shut, it blew all the seals.

Now, Im building a new 9" and selling my old one to a friend for his Wrangler. I was going to buy a new vent bolt but they are hard to get (I was backordered with CJ for 2 months then they told me they couldnt get it ???) and I have a new idea. Couldnt I just drive the hole ilittle bigger in the vent bolt itself to clear it out and save the hassle of getting a new one?

How come the hole in the vent bolt is so small anyways? It might be 2-3mm wide. You'd think they would see this as a problem since it could clog/rust shut easily.

The size of the hole isn't really important, right? I'd just enlarge it alittle....

Yep, drill it out.

FYI, the more you deal with CJ's, the more patience you should develop. Theirorder fill rate is considerably less than the big guys.

Good luck,
Dave

Fixed it. The hole was 1/16th wide. Maybe it's just me, but again, you'd think maybe they would make the hole bigger. I drilled it out to 1/8th...
