one piece oil gasket

I just installed a 1 piece and used sealer in the four corners of the half circles. The instructions that came with mine say to only use it there. I've run the engine for about 10 min since putting it on and it doesn't look to be leaking.

yeah thats funny stuff,
the guy at the counter had no idea what he was looking for.
i specifically asked for the 1 piece gasket and it took him three tries. he kept bringing out the wrong thing.
i got a cardboard box with a gasket and 4 clips inside.
ok then what sealant will work on silicone. i read that normal black rtv wont stick to silicone.

we have SUpercheap and Autobarn here as the cheap parts chain stores. Maybe 80% of what they sell is crud. 80% of their staff are clueless. Then we have Repco, who sell maybe 20% crud. The rest is good stuff and their guys are usually pretty good on the advice too.
Arent there alternative local stores other than autozone or is it a case of knowing exactly what you need before you go there? Just curious.
They're not supposed to need any sealer. That being said, you could use some at the ends. I actually had to run a bead of ultra grey into the groove on the front u portion since I had a slight leak there with mine. You could just install it dry, and then put some silicone in the curved u part on the outside with your finger(sorta like caulk).

there are quite a few stores
sadly they are all the same.
if you tell them make model and year they can normally find the part on the computer.
ask them a hard question though like
"Does this holley trick work for a 4160 style?"
and you will get an answer like i dont know we just sell the stuff, the customer has to know what he needs for speciality parts.
The silcone gaskets do not need any sealer to work. It usually will cause them to leak. They are made to be put on dry. Make sure your pan is straight and torque to specs. I put one of these on mine and have removed the pan to replace the pump already (go figure, new pump gone bad) reused gasket (dry) and still no leak.
Use RTV. I have tried numerous times without. Just tried it one last time with no sealant. New pan also. Leaks in the back. Any body else get tired of re-doing stuff because somebody else made it wrong ?
