Default PAINT

im starting to save my money for bodywork/paint now. i still need to find a shop to do but what would be a normal/average price for a complete bodywork paint job? 2k?

and im still not 100% sure of what color, so i want others opinions. the car right now is faded red and was orignally a yellow[:'(]. my dads stang is white so i dont want white anymore, and my friends stang is a medium/dark silver (i think he called it mercedes benz silver) so i dont want to copy him. (again, since his was red also.)

im restoring my car to MOSTLY original so no stripes please. i hate em anyway.

Unless you know the folks and get a deal on bodywork and paint 2k is unlikely to cover it. For paint alone your looking at 1500 to 2000 as a base. Bodywork.. is that sheetmetal or just the paint pre thats needs to be done?

i just need body filler and some tiny dents filled and the panels smoothed. no sheetmetal work. ive already replaced ALL rust. on a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being show paint and 1 being crap, i want a 5. i know some dude just got a maaco paint job that looked amazing on here, but he knew the owners personally. honestly, i dont even care if its a maaco paint job. anything is better than what it is/was.

Just so you know about Maaco.. They have a single stage cheap product and a 2-stage base/clear that I called about. I was quoted 900 for the single stage and "about 2000 or more" for the 2-stage. Thats with block sanding and prep already done my myself. IMO the only way to go for a car thats going to be driven much is the 2-stage paint... but thats just me.

I'll be either painting it myself of having 1 of 2 professional painters my father knows lay the paint for me. I'd really like to do it myself but its the one thing I may chicken out of doing myself lol.

i think you're thinking of me for the maaco paint job
i remember someone replied and said you can't really be that bad at painting if it's your job everyday..
they use sherwin williams paints which are good i hear, and i did the body work myself so it turned out nice

this is about 2 weeks after we got it back

and yeah..maaco has different packages..the cheapest is like $299 but thats just for paint and doesn't include primer i don't think..which is another 200
i primed mine myself but they had to reprime to make sure the paint stuck and what not

I like the dark green for obvious reasons, but putting that aside, consider that red is more expensive (due to the cost of the pigments) and black requires that the body be perfect (every little flaw will show up.)
I think that Caspian Blue (Navy Blue) looks sweet.
What color is the gut?
Other is a nice color too.

Green. Not to sound like a dick, but when it comes to paint, you really get what you pay for. Find a local shop that will let you work on the car with them. You'll learn a lot, save some snaps, and have a much deeper appreciation for the process. Took me about 5 months to get mine straight as I wanted. Worked on it a couple of hours a day.....found my color and cleared the hell out of it. Still havent wet sanded and buffed it. Maybe when I get done underneath the hood? Some Maaco paint stores do really good work, some look like hell. Just my .02

I am just throwing this out there but how about flat black.... I think it looks amesome... I bought my paint and took it to the shop and they charged 1500 for paint and bodywork. I did take off the chrome and did some prep for the shop, oh and you can get good paint at a good price. I am actually starting to like single stage with a coat of clear mixed in at the end.

your at the same stage i am, 2K better dig deaper. I went to a shop on was looking at a min or 8K-10K for show work. Macco----- i would not have them paint a try cycle let alone my ride that i have put so much personal time and money into. my decision......prep and prime my self (I HATE TO SAND), do the body work my self, prime again (did i mention I HATE TO SAND). them 2 stage paint. All in my drive way. i have considered all the factors, and on by budget, i should be right at 2K. I wont do it in the open (consealed tent and vetalation and a lot of duct tape). Epoxy preimer and filler 200.00 the paint i am looking at is quoted at 800.00 base and clear
Hope i was some sort of help.

as henry ford put it, "you can have any color, so long as its black."

I like black, but as mentioned, your bodywork has to be perfect for it to look good.

That said, I like dark green. But I am a little biased.
