Default Early 65 price?

Hey guys, anyone know what a good price for an early 65 with a 260 v8 in it would be? It looks like its in good shape from the pics I've seen, still need to go look at it in person obviously. Just wanted to knowwhat to offer if I like it.I've looked around but can't find any pricing info on one with the 260 in it. From the HP ratings I've seen it looks to be a little underpowered but thats ok for me. I just want another fun car, for not a ton of money. I'm thinking about buying one to go with my '05 GT. You guys always help so I'm sure someone has a good answer, so thanks in advance!!

the 641/2 and 65s are generally not an expensive model.
Convertible will cost more than coupe, fastbacks are notoriuosly expensive
V8 (from factory, check VIN) will be more expensive than inline6.
check craigslist and ebay (ebay is more expensive than what you can buy local as you have a much wider buying area, worldwide!)

If you could post the pictures it would help us out a lot. But this site should also help give you a general idea. http://www.nadaguides.com/home.aspx?...78&nozip=1

I appreciate the help guys, if I can get him to send me a few more pics I will post them. The ones I have right now probably won't be a lot of help to anyone. And I checked NADA but if you go out there, you can't find an option for the 260 v8 (I guess it could be there and I'm blind, definately possible). I'm sure it takes away from the value some.

260V8 is a 1964 1/2 mustang model engine. So yes you're in the early category.
be aware that there is a huge number of differences between that and the 65.
If all of those original features are still there (for example generator instead of alternator ... there's loads of webpages explaining the differences between 1964 1/2 and 65), then I would consider the car more expensive.
But it's up to you what you want. do you want original or do you want to drive it.
I can't really recommend driving (at least not daily) a 19641/2 with single master cylinder, no powerassist in brakes, drums all around things. That's mine in the current state and every sane person should at least upgrade to discs in front and dual master cylinder brakes.
But as mentioned. it very much depends on "how original do you want"

I'm sure it has the generator instead of an alternator, he said that during our correspondence. He did say the brakes have already been totally redone. So hopefully that means fixing what you are talking about. Are there any problems with having a generator instead of an alternator? I assume an alternator is better, but unfortunately my car addiction only refers to buying and driving, not actually having any knowledge about how to fix them. Thats why I count on the smart guys on here that actually know whats up. Thanks again!!

you can run the car no problem with an alternator. if in any case that thing dies you might have a hard time replacing it, but the good news is that it's quite easy to replace with a generator.
Search google for difference in 1964 1/2 and 1965. there is actually nothing major as far as I know between them what driveability concerns.
When you buy a mustang bring someone who knows them so they can check for their typical weak spots (cowl ...!)

I plan on taking it to a mechanic to have it looked at, because I think most of my friends know less than me which isn't much.... Haha. So from what you guys aresaying is if I can get for around $4 or 5k it would be a reasonably good deal (obviously if its in good shape and doesn't need work).

not really, it depends a lot on the specific condition of the car. interior, exterior, driveline, rust, etc. Pics are the best way to tell. It will also depend on where you live and what they go for there.

Classics are hard to put a general price on, it is really a matter of specific values.
