You shouldn't have to mod anything. It should simply replace your old cap. I'm not completely sure because ive only installed a locking gas cap on a '02, the locking mechanism was built into the cap. Gas is expensive....protect it

I dont think anyone here in my city would actually pour sugar into someones fuel but then again anythings possible and id rather be safe than sorry.

You are on the right track of thinking. You don't want to have to install a locking gas cap after something stupid happens. Better to prevent itrather thanstopping it from happening again.
I keep a locking cap on my 68 just as a deterrent against theft or sabotage of any sort. I don't think it looks as good as the OE cap but it gives me a little peace of mind. And if I want to swap in the original temporarily, its a piece of cake. As others said, no mods necessary.
FWIW, I bought that exact cap from someone off ebay, brand new for about $60 including S&H.
