Default Suspension

Hi All,
I've read up this as much as I can but I am still puzzled. I am going to put new springs (front/rear) and shocks on my '65 V-8 coupe. I've read about not going too stiff in the rear. At this point, I'm thinking KYB Gas-A-Just in front and either the same or just GR2s in the rear. Does anyone have an opinion on this idea? Also, I'm thinking that if the car does not sit with the rake I want, I may do either the full 1" Shelby drop or a little less - of course, keeping in mind that the 1" does not equate to 1" in reality.
Thanks for you ideas,
Bob

I have the KYB gas adjust in the rear of my 67. It sits a little stiff but that also may be from the poly bushings that I replaced on the springs. Good shocks IMO. On the front, I just cut 3/4 of a coil off the front coils. Sits perfect right now. With the shelby drop, you will get about 1/2" although it appears to be more. But you also gain the handling with the drop. Don't forget to get the front end aligned to the proper specs. Do a search, I know they are here somewhere.

I replaced the original shocks up front in my 67 with the Gas-A-Just and I love them. Made a huge difference in the handling, it got rid of alot of roll and it doesn't ride too hard, still a comfortable ride.

Do not do the UCA drop for the sake of lowering the car, do the UCA drop because you want the car to handle better. As was already said 1/4" to 5/8" is all the drop you will get, but the improved handling is well worth it!!! As far as shocks you want to put the same basic type all the way around so your car is consistent in handling qualities. I have the gas adjust on all 4 corners and love them. also as was said unless this is a track car go with stock springs all the way around or just slightly stiffer. stay away from really stiff springs or your car will ride like a truck.

+1, KYB's are a good bang for the buck

I have 5leaf mideye in the rear and 620's in the front and it is too stiff! Wish I would have gone with 4leaf mideye and the next stage down in the front...

UCA drop is a good idea. You might as well do it since you'll have it all apart anyways. I didnt though due to other complications...
