I have recently paint the the motor, trans, and whole front clip of my car and POR15 on the underside.

I wouldn't paint the driveshaft. Uneven paint layers (even single coat thickness)will become a vibratation issue before you know it.

i guess the best thing to do is sand it lightly removing the surface rust...

Paint it white nascar style lol skippy is right if you paint it id have it rebalanced just in case.

id just gegrease it and install new u joints and call it done
