Default Firewall pad fasters

Hi, I'm having an issue installing my new firewall pad. I put a layer of Fatmat and a 2nd layer of that alumimun bubble wrap insulation they sell at Lowes under the new pad. This makes it a little more difficult to push in the rubber pad fasteners for the firewall pad. I got 6 fasterns with the pad. I destroyed 5 of the fasteners trying to get them installed. Only one is actually in place.

Is there a special tool I should use to push through the middle?A particularsized dowel maybe? I was using a tork screwdriver, but pushed too hard 5 times. Just pushing on the body of the fastener doesn't seem to do the trick either.

I'm considering running a nut and bolt through the middle of the broken fasteners (the end part, the important part, is broekn off). Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John
