Default ??? push rod bolts

Is there a set torque for the tappet bolts that hold the push rods in place? Do they get tightened all the way down or what? I am replacing the head on my 65 200 straight six and can find no info.

Thanks,
Ed

That's my question: there is a torque number? I mean this isn't something you just do by feel. This my sound stupid, but wouldn't the torque or pressure change with the rise and the fall of the piston? I have noticed that sometimes I could spin the push rods and sometimes I couldn't. I also noticed that one of the springs was not responding fully, which would cause the rod to become disengaged and flop about. This problem, plus finding pieces of what I guess were the valve seals, is why i decided to replace the head.

Another question: is reconditioning a head something I can do myself or is it better to buy one that is already finished? I've called around the area and it would cost about three bills to have it done by a shop. A national chain is advertising one at $314. Is it possible to buy the parts and do it in the garage?
