Default Replaced Fuel Pump, now won't run help please.

So, i was having some issue with my engine, getting into high rpms would bog down. I figured it was my fuel pump not being able to keep up.

I bought the NPD part for 351w and unbolted the old one, undid the hoses, put the new one in, hooked up the hoses, and tried firing up. The clear fuel filter i have fills about halfway up. I cant figure out why it wont get running and stay running. Is it possible that because my engine is fairly built, the fuel pump is not able to keep up?

I have no leaking, so it is just not successfully pumping the fuel, i guess. i got it to run and stay running, so i took it for a quick test drive down my road, and had to tow it home with my truck.

I dont own a fuel pressure gauge, but does anyone have any suggestions? Im not financially at a point where i can justify going out and buying a $150 fuel pump, so any advice on things i did wrong or etc would be great.

Thanks.

do you have an air compressor?

take a rag and pressurize the tank slightly while some turns over the motor it will force the fuel up to the pump

It takes a lot of engine to outrun a carb'd stock fuel pump. Any leaks? Was the eccentric installed properly on the cam gear?

is that the arm that goes inside the block? thats what i was wondering, i mean it fit in fine, but i didnt know if there was something special i needed to be doing...

and to answer another q... no, no leaks. if i empty the clear fuel filter, when i fire it up, it fills about halfway... not fully, like before...

so with no leaks, and a little being pumped but not much (i unhooked from carb put hose into a bottle and fired it up... didnt fill much of the bottle, very slow flow too...) should i assume the pump itself is installed wrong? any tips aside from bolt the new one on?

what special am i to do about the eccentric??? (the arm coming off the pump) thanks

the eccentric attaches to the camshaft timing gear, you have to take off the timing cover to get to it. It is oval shaped and is driven by the timing chain and causes the plunger arm to go up and down much the way a lifter rides on a cam lobe.
