Default Tranny Leak

My 68 C4 tranny has a leak. Can't tell where it originates, but it drips from theU-joint. The rest of the tranny is dry, so I'm gonna assume it's the tail shaft. But, I pulled the drive shaft and the end of it is dry and so is the housing that the drive shaft slips into. ???? How hard is it to replace the tailshaft seal, if that's what it is?

i think you should try some of that lucas oil tranny fix first...it works wonders. not sure how good it is for your car but its made by lucas so i assume its good for it and ive heard great things about it. of course thats only a temp. solution, but thats what i would do since im on a budget and wouldnt have time to fix just a leak.

I tried that. It stopped for a couple of days but started up again. I did notice that the fluid level is way over full. Wonder if that has anything to do with it? Maybe it's blowing out somewhere because it's too full ???

Did you check fluid level with the engine running and in park when hot?
IF not thats a false reading.

If the trans is dry, it may be leaking thru the yoke, from right in front of the ujoint.

I think step called it.

How over full was it like 1/4 inch 1/2 inch or like 2 inches?

It was about an inch or so over. So the yoke - is that the end of the drive shaft? Is that what the 'tail shaft' bushing is supposed to keep from leaking?
