How much will body work cost?
Okay, so i have a 1968 mustang thats in pretty decent shape. However, both the rear fenders may need replacing, as well as a small spot in the floor pan and the inner fender under the battery tray. What would be a typical price to have a body shop replace these areas?
rear quarters will be the most expensive, unless yo uneed torque boxes or frame rails, these can be pricey too. the most expensive is probably the rocker panels on a vert.
depends on where youre at. but cheapest is not always best. keep that in mind. look around, id saytwo grand or so, roughly, give or take. could be way off depending on where youre at and who does it.

The quarter panels themselves would be about $300 each if they need to be replaced.

I found that it is not the parts that eat your lunch, it is the labor so best to do things yourself whenever possible.

I think he was asking about the labor costs. Also at 260.00 bucks from VCM thats insane! I just bought the drivers rear quarter from National Parts Depot for 109.95 for our 67 (& installed last week).
To the OP.. pick up the phone and call a few shops in your area. You could also post your location here and see if anyone on the forums knows of a good shop in your area. Someone here may be able to weld and live in your area! As for costs its impossible to say really.. a Guess would be 1500 to 2000 for what you said, give or take 1/2 that again.

One thing you might want to be careful of is once you begin digging into the car and replacing metal, that will usually uncover other problem areas that will need fixed too. Just beware your original costs could easily double. I would expect to pay $2000 or so for what you mentioned, parts and labor.
Thanks for the replies. I live in Norman, OK. I'd do the work myself, but lack both the tools and the skill. I'm super busy so i usually only work on the car for about an hour or two a week so thats why i was considering a body shop. Would you guys consider replacing the rear fenders to be a difficult task? or would it be an okay job for a beginner. I could learn to weld and rent a welder, i do have the means of that.
You can buy all the welder you would need, and trust me you will use it alot once you have it, at lowes for $425. The job itself isnt hard, but it takes alot of patience and double checking to make sure you are spot on. You will also need a die grinder w/cutting wheels to take the quarter panels off. I had never done a quarter panel replacement much lessbarely any body work at alland did a full replace on my 69 w/no problems, took me about a week per side workin 2-3 hours a day.
Im taking a wild guess but 2 grand parts and labor mostly since labor rates are different every shop and yes you always find hidden rust.Find a car restorer place most body shops will push your car out of the way to fix a newer wrecked car its faster money. Also drive by the place a couple times see how fast they fix cars if theres a lot of wrecked cars sitting there a long time pass on them.
