Default Rust Filled with Poly

I was thinking about buying a 1964.5 Mustang covertible. It looks great and I had an appraisal and inspection done on it. The inspection found a couple of small things (lighter didn't work, high beams didn't work, radio didn't work). The dealer said he would fix all these no problem. The inspector also found 3 areas where there was a poly fill from where they sanded out the rust. He said this was a common problem with older Mustangs and not a big deal as they look like they were repaired correctly. He still put a very high value on the car (~$38K) and said it was in great shape all around other than these issues. What do you all think? Is the former rust issue a serious issue?

Where was the rust? Do you know how thick the filler is? Probably is not a big deal. You are talking about a car almost 45 years old. Some rust repair is almost a certainty. Did they check the cowl for leaks?

38 seems awfully high to me. Now this is coming from a guy who was given a I6 Coupe from his Dad. I am interested to see what other people say about the price.

For 38K I would expect a show quality car.

I'm with you. For $38K, I would exoect the car to at least have new metal and no fill. The only poly I would expect would be a skim coat.

What is the guy wanting for the car? Have the cowls been repaired? If the seller is asking anywhere near 38k for the car, I would think he would have already had those problems fixed. Would make me wonder what other short cuts were done. Did you find the Appraisal Company or the Seller?

I think the appraiser set the value at $38,000. He didn't say what the asking price was.

I think the cowl is OK. The fill was near the tire wells and one on a rear bumber.
