Kalli,

I never used any UK parts houses but I think there is one called south west mustang or south coast mustang based in the UK. google time!!

believe it or not I have the car standing on it's own legs again.
There was no way to modify the existing spring plate so that the U-bolt would fit in there and I can close the screws.
Only if I had cut the plate. I found that the distance from one u-bolt in the old plate to the other one was the exact same as what I needed for the new u-bolts.
So what we did was to swap the brackets from side to side (left to right and right to left). This way it woiuld have nearly fit, just the holes were not wide enough to clear the leaf spring.
It would cover half the hole on each side. As we had no tools to widen or extend those holes we welded in a new 2mm plate from the underside, drilled 3mm holes from the top (right at the end of the original hole)
and from the bottom we opened this new hole to 13mm. Fits near perfect.
The downside is that the shocks are not travelling the original way, they're a bit more forward now and I'd say the bushings won't survive this for long (to be seen)
Most importantly I have the car back on it's 4 wheels to be able to move it around ... that was a long evening for 8 stupid holes.
