stop complaining. europe pays way more than us, and if you care enough then buy a vespa or something. I dont get that great of gas mileage even on my DD (mostly cuz I have a turbo and a heavy foot), but I just suck it up and pay for gas. I love driving, and im just not gonna let the prices get to me. just my 2 cents tho cuz im sure most people dont feel the say way.

Comparing US prices to many other countries prices is grossly unfair to the US...

I dont have a subway, train, taxi, bus, or any other form of public transportation in my area and walking/biking is impossible since the nearest establishment is 5 miles away, and most of my travels are around 10-20miles.

A good friend of mine in Spain however can walk nearly anywhere she needs to within 10-15 minutes and public trans is top notch...

I drive 140 miles a day roundtrip to work in Southern California. I commute in a Honda Fit and going 65 mph I can get 41.5 mpg. I see all kinds of people commuting in SUVs, fullsize pickups and other low gas mileage cars--they go blowingby me at 75 or 80 mph!Ifilled my tank this morning and it was $4.03/gal for Shell regular. Going 75 mph in a V8 pickup or SUV, those drivers areprobably getting only 12 miles per gallon. They could save a lot of money byjust slowing down and taking 5 minutes longer to arrive at their destination.

I'm restoring a 1968 notchback and I've decided to drop in a 351W crate motor from Ford with a C4 and a 3.00 rearend.Even though ourcurrent price situationmight be driven by speculation, I don't believe that gas will be a whole lot cheaper in the future. Fortunately I don't have to drive my Mustang daily.

I just watched a video that was on FOX23 sent to me in email about a guy in Clearwater FL who uses water to power his car and torches, instead of H20 it's HH20 and he has pattened his invention.
He is currently in the works with 1 us automaker and the government to make a hybrid hummer that runs on gas and water! WOW, I hope it's true.

I agree with you, I drive over the road truck and see it everyday. With one person in them, SUV's or jacked up 4x4's going 80+ mph. I sometimes drive in big cities and very rarely do you see people in the carpool lane even. The USA has a "give me it now and that ain't fast enough" additude. The only people being hurt by high gas prices are the ones going 80+ mph with suv's and 4x4 trucks,etc...

Big Brother wants you to buy gas. They could easily reduce the speed limit and save several percent on usage. But wait! that would cost them some tax money. Its past time these self serving "BOZO's" are removed from office. Course they think that they are doing all of us such a good job, and we can't do without them, that they gave themself another raise a few months ago. How about taking one for the team? The oilis going torun out, and if we, as a Nation, are not prepared, you better grass up your Horse, and plant yourself agarden. It seems that answers are out their, but are supressed by the dollar and the control freaks (BIG OIL?). Hydrogen may be the solution, and the Japs seem to be well out in front, as I hear they are now producing a Hydrogen powered car. Also, they are VERY large reserves of coal. Enough for a couple hundred years of Hydrocarbon power, and its here under our feet. I can remember in the early 90'sa company around here wasmaking gas from coal. The price was about a $1.29 but vanished overnight. A tonn of coal was then was about 32$, now its well over 150$. And lets not forget how "BIG BROTHER" busted up the phone monopoly years ago. Why don't they mess with BIG OIL. I wonder. How about some term limits for these BOZO's. How about reducing their pay for doing a crappy job (JOKE). The power still rest with the people, and we need to vote these DUDS out of office. I would love to see them have to put on a T-shirt and bluejeans and trade some skin and blood for a paycheck. I guess they are too busy sailing oron the beach to stay in tune with our struggles.

stop whining I pay ****loads more think it is circa $9.12 per gallon top that
I'm curious two questions, how many miles/kilometers per week do you have to drive to do you normal business (Work and Shopping)? Also, has gasoline doubled in price there in the last two years?

This is just for my own curiosity, I'll share my information with you....I must drive500 miles/800 Km per week just going to andfromwork...nothing else..no choice, no public transportation...My wife does more....We average about 6000 miles/9600 Km per month all total between the two of us. We probably average about 20 MPG on our cars (probablynot thathigh, but easy to do math). This means we buy about 300 gallons/1321 litres of gasoline each month on average. (Yeah, I know not very GREEN, but we live in DFW and no busses or trains go into our suburb). Back when gasoline was $2.00 per gallon (mid 2006)we spent $600 per month on gasoline. Now that it is $4.00 we spend $1200 per month on gasoline. Obviously when it gets to $5.00/gallon I'll be spending $1500 per month and so on. Almost every month my budet is going to crap.

I know that compared to the rest of world our gasoline is relatively inexpensive, even now. The problem is that most people are getting paid based on a standard of living that resulted from that. Now in a very short period of timeour family budgets have been blown out of the water, and the sudden change in fuel prices is also causing everything else to increase in price too, making matters worse. Some people may be losing there homes and futures over this because it is happening too rapidly to adjust.

Paddy187 (or anybody else....mainly curious about those outside the US),

I'm not being antagonistic toward you, I am just very curious about how my situation on fuel compares to yours in Europe.
