Engine issues
My 289 blew up in my 65 stang it was over heating really bad and i did eveything to try and solve the problem. Why taking it apart we found out it was boreded over .40. i Really do belive that is why it would run hot.
Well now i have a hole in my piston wall and the only way to fix the engine is to sleeve it and bore it .60 and i really think that will make things worse.
so......questions
1. does anyone think the .40 was the reason it was over heating.
2. should i keep the engine since it is the one that came with the car?
3. i have a 79 302 that i can put in it. should i do that or a 66 289 block i found for $100.00 that i would also have to rebuild.

I would tose that block .060 over is pushing your luck since you were having heat problems at .040. I sold a 79 302 block to a recyler we deal with alot. I only got $50.00 for it because 79 was not a good year for 302s. Check the bore size and wear in the 66 if it can make .030 or less I would say go for it.
i found my standard bore 302 block for $50. came outta a 69 bronco. just find one on craigslist and take a pair of calipers to check the bore if you find one.
dont sleeve the block and bore to .060 its junk now.

I have a 289 that was bored 60 over and it runs cool. No problems.
Since the 79 302 motor is paid for that is a plus for it.
I wouldn't put alot of cash into an old motor unless it was original to the car, which your aint.
If you get a newer block, say after 87, it will have roller lifters and a modern cam grind. That is more of a plus.
