my first mustang
That would depend on how much you know about mechanics and body work. If you are a raw beginner, I think I would start learning how to work on cars by buying an old beater car of any brand and tear it apart, then put it back together. If you insist on starting with a Mustang, then get a 65-66. They are a whole lot more simplistic than the later models.
I got my '65 when I was 14. I waited six months after getting it, tore the brakes off, and slacked for another six months before I ordered all the parts I needed to get it running with the 6. Once I got the parts finally, I forgot how everything went together, so I spent a few more months putting that off, till one week, I put on a coat (winter) and gloves, and finally got my butt to working. Your going to learn alot of lessons if you choose to get a stang.. or any classic for that matter. When I started I was un organized, lazy, and got side tracked real easily. I learned real quick that being like that made life a whole lot more difficult lol. Im straying off here, so maby I havent solved getting side tracked.
Back on track, I would have to suggest a 64.5-66 also. If you want a 8cyl, go for it. If you want a 6 cyl, go for it. But dont be like me and buy a 6cyl with intentions of converting it. Its turning out to be a pita.. but I cant say I thought it would be a breeze. Im the type of guy that sees the easy way, and swerves off the road and tries to see how many trees I can hit before getting back in buisness (aka I need a project in my life right now, lol).
The only thing that sucks about being so young and owning a classic is that your insurance most likely wont cover you under collectors insurance.. Mine states you have to be 27..
