Default Got the new Gauges in! PICS!!!

Well, I picked up a center dash piece with the 3 gauge holes in it on Wednesday, along with some Autometer Sport comp gauges; Water Temp, Oil press, and Trans temp. Somebody had already enlarged the holes in the dash piece in hopes of doing this mod, and in turn made them slightly too big. No problem. I drew up some "mini bezels" in AutoCADto go around the gauges and fill in the space, and them had themlazer cut out of 18 GA Stainless Steel. I made the center hole right at 2 inches, so that the bezels would be really tight on the gauges. Once I got the bezelson, I epoxyed them and the gaugesinto the dash piece, and let it dry. I then finished the wiring and installed all of the senders. Luckily, I had already placed a drain plug in my transmission pan, so I just removed it and quickly shoved the trans temp sender into it(same thread size as the plug)with hardly any fluid loss. I then started it up and ran it for a few minutes to make sure they were all going to work correctly, and then putthe interiorall back together. What do you guys think?

Nice job. I didn't think you would get it to look that good. I am glad it worked out for you. Could you get another picture of the whole thing with a little better lighting?

The lights are just white. I wanted it to look as close to stock as possble, and the factory speedometer and fuel gauges just have white bulbs so this way they match.

Well thank you! Trust me, I did a LOT of measuring and figuring to make sure it was possible before I started on it. It all went really smoothly, and I am very happy with how it turned out.I have about $210 in all of it, including the gauges, so thats not too bad, considering that the dash center piecesaloneusually go for close to that.

I am usually a fan of full sweep gauges but that looks nice.

Well, to be honest, I like the full sweep gauges better too, but Autometer doestn't make the full sweep electric guages to monitor these things. I didn't want manual gauges; I wanted electric, and I wanted them al to match, so this is the way I had to go! oh well! I still like it a lot!

So, ive been thinking today... What if I put in an Autometer speedo and in-dash tach into my instrument cluster. This would be a lot trickier to do, but I saw one on you tube that was done this way so I know that it is possible. Its just that I really like the way the Autometer guageslook and honestly, it'd just be sweet. I may go up to the local Mustang junkyard and pick up an old instrument cluster and see if I could make something work. You think it could be done fairly easily???
