Default Radiator fan question?

As I'm starting to learn, working on a classic Mustang is a never-ending adventure. Well, I got my disc brakes in, went out for atest driveand my radiator started to leak. So, I went ahead and bought a 20in aluminum replacement. Looking at the fan that is in there, it has 4 blades and there isn't a shroud. The fan looks a little "wimpy". So while I'm at it, I think I want to replace that fan as well. I don't want to go with an electric fan (at least not yet because of $$$) but I want to get better cooling. But looking at the different fans (5 blades oem-types to flex-a-lite) I'm not sure what to get. And would a fan-clutch help me out?

Thanks

I have a factory 5 blade flex fan on mine. You should just go get a flex fan from a local parts store. It will pull a lot of air all of the time because the fins will be curved at idle, but will flatten out some when the engine revs, which saves you HP.

I just converted mine to electrical and it wasn't very expensive at all. I think total I spent about 125$ for a 14" Hayden fan and adjustable thermostatic regulator. I installed it as a pusher, if I need more cooling power down the road, I'll mount a 16" or 17" as a puller to help.

ashroud will do wonders to help direct the air flow if you decide to use a conventional fan. I'd consider buying the shroud with your current set up, they're very inexpensive.

^+1 I bought mine from CJ pony parts and it was relatively inexpensive for a factory reproduction peice. It worked really great that night then I blew the motor.
