Default 1970 mustang starting trouble

Ok so first day of the summer i try to go for a ride. Fun. Not. It starts up good then just dies. If i keep pushing down the gas it keeps running but then it dies on me if i stop hitting the gas. I was aware i needed a new carb but i was hoping it wouldnt be now! When i was driving it and hit the gas hard it would stall out on me and random times at lights and stuff. When i take the air filter off and hit the gas the carb doesnt do anything. We went to change the spark plugs and the guy at Autozone sold me the wrong ones. So i put the old one back in and thats when it started giving me all the trouble of not continuing to run.I dont think that is the problem, i think it just so happened to happen afterwards. What do you think I need? I got the day off tomorrow i can fix it then! Thanks

Do you notice any gas around on the intake towards the front of the carburetor? Is the car backfiring at all? My 72 did this one time and it was the carburetor needing a rebuild. Put on a new carb and the problem was gone. Hope this was helpful.

if vaccum lines are good then it may have a piece of dirt stuck in a passage in the carb.. may need a cleaning / rebuild.. hard to say with little info to go off of.. what kind of carb is it??

We did a little bit more investigating... The spark plugs look to have some oil around them. I think the valve cover gaskets are bad on the passenger side. Also we think we hear a little misfire... I think the plugs are shot. I am going to replace the plugs, wires, coils and a lot of ignition stuff. Any advice? I only want to do this once so i want to go with the best!Going to do the valve cover gaskets as well.If that doesnt work then im going to do carb and intake. I got a car show i have been looking forward to on Saturday. My baby needs to be running!!! I got the Crager SSand new tires waiting in my bedroom.

before slapping a bunch of parts on I'd clean the carb , check fuel pressure and make sure fuel filter isn't restricted...what kind of carb is it??
