Default steering box help

I have run in to a little problem I am hoping someone here can help me with. I can’t figure out how to disconnect the steering gear box from the shaft that comes through the firewall. I was hoping it would just slide out after being unbolted but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I want it out to investigate the large amount of play it has, and to paint the engine well. It is a 67 with manual steering. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Thanks, Adam

if its early 67 it will have the long shaft type where the steering column and box are one unit. have to take the whole lot out.

later 67s on had a coupling (rag joint) just above the box.
