then what's wrong with a Honda Fit.
It looks like shiz.
Well I guess if you'd rather spend $100 filling your tank of your American SUV Tank, more power to you.

I'll laugh all the way to the bank!
Hey, I posted that real quickly yesterday without reading it...I realize how offensive it sounded, should have put it better. I personally don't like the look of the little cracker box/sewing machine cars....but with gas going so high.....

The irony of all this is, in '06 my DD was an '05 Dodge Ram 1500 XCab 4X4....yeah it had a hemi. It also only got about 11.7 mpg on my commute (very slow stop and go). One day in '06 I filled up and it was $77.00. I had to fill it up every 2.5-3work days. I said, I'm not filling this pig up again. I started looking for a replacement and settled on either the Civic Si or a Mustang GT....the Civic gets better mileage, but either of which would be a huge improvement over the truck. I was upside down on the truck, but the cost of either car meant my payment would still go down significantly andeither car would get a lot better mileage. I decided to go american made and liked the newMustangs better anyway.

I still fill it up about about every 3 days, but I only put about 14.5 gallons in it instead of 25 in the truck. However, at $4+/gallon, it's now getting up to over $60.00 to refill the tank again.

If I trade the Mustang for a Civic, my payment would still go down a little even if I roll whatever negative equity from the mustang into the payment. I'd get a little better mileage and save a little each week on my gas, but the reality of it is that I'd be paying more for the Civic than it is worth in order to get a lower weekly gas bill. I'm still paying for it one way or the other.

Can't really decide what the right thing to do is....for now I'm probably sticking with the stang for a DD, because the difference just isn't substantial enough.....yet. [sm=headbang.gif]

I have a 98 Civic for my DD. It has helped with me being able to do my 60 mile roundtrip commute to work. The way gas prices are going nothing is really "fuel efficient" anymore. I told my wife if I could find a job closer to home (which I'm looking into some options that even pay better than my current job) I'd buy a Vespa Scooter. I know sounds like a dork talking but the reality is they get better mileage leaving more money to put into my mustang and they have some really innovative bikes now like the M3 line. Personally it would have to get alot worse though before I would go to that extreme.

I also have a 77 GMC 3/4 ton longbed pickup with a 3 speed automatic and dual tanks. Needless to say it doesn't come out of the garage unless I need to haul something big.

As it stands I'd buy another Civic in a heartbeat b/c of how good it has been. I'm just trying to make it last long enough for me to get some debts paid off andthe Mustang.

I've been a fan of Honda cars since I bought a Civic new in 1988. My current daily driver is a 1994 Acura Integra. I get about 32 mpg and I paid $1400 for it a year and a half ago. With gas the way it is now I'm sure I could make money on it but I still need it. If I could get an American made car with the same quality and reliability as the Hondas I would. I have a 2003 GMC Diesel truck and the wife has a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country. I do more work and pay more money for service on those two than I do on the old Acura and it gets about 4 times more miles put on it than either of them. 187,000 miles and still going strong. That 88 Civic I bought new had 267,000 on it when I sold it and it was rusty, but still ran like a top. Only ever had to do expected maintenance (tires, batteries, brakes, exhaust and 1 clutch). I love my old Mustang, but for economy and reliability in a newer car it is hard to beat the Hondas. Detroit is getting better and the wife and I liked the 07 Mustang convertible we rented for vacation last year. Been considering one of those for the next car

No offense taken so don't worry about it. My Honda Fit is my DD and all around utility vehicle. I bought it because it was so practical. It can fit 4 American sized adults comfortably and also it has a huge cargo capacity. I have a Nissan pickup that I can haul with but I'm currently fully insuring 3 vehicles for ONE driver (myself). The insurance bill is expensive and I hardly ever drive the truck or Integra.

I'm going to sell the truck soon but I'll still have the ability to haul stuff in my Fit. Since I commute 140 miles a day and my last tank I got 43.5 mpg, I'm not going broke getting to work.

I'm fortunate enough that I can afford a dedicated transportation/DD vehicle and have two cars that are my hobby cars. Today on the 5 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley I saw a guy towing a 25 foottravel trailer with a raised 4x4 truck going 75 mph in the FAST lane. In California the speed limit for vehicles with trailers is 55, and you are not supposed to drive in the fast lane ever.He was probably getting 10 mpg and all I could do is shake my head.He was also at high risk for a very expensive ticket from the CHP.

I got passed by dozens of trucks and full size SUVs on my way to work this morning since I was driving at 65 mph (the speed limit). I don't know how those people are paying for their gas sinceit's now $4.59 for regular. We wouldn't be in this situation if we didn't use so much energy.

I wish I could go 55......My trip computer on the 06 hasn't been reset since I bought it and it shows that my average speed since I bought it in August of 2006 is 35 mph......I have 35600 miles on it... that means I've spent more than 1000 hours driving that car mostly to work and back home.
